It’s exciting to be embarking on a higher degree by research, but it’s also daunting, full of uncertainty and sometimes causes anxiety. Milestone 1 - your research proposal - is usually the first substantial piece of writing you’ll produce as an HDR candidate, and getting it right sets you up well for the years of research ahead.
Your research proposal is essentially the blueprint for your project: it sets out what you’re planning to investigate, why it matters, and how you intend to go about it. Examiners assess it to check that your project is feasible and that you’re well prepared to carry it out - not to judge the eventual contribution of your finished thesis.
